Objective: This study explores the mediating role of mindfulness in the relationship between personality traits and spiritual intelligence among male student-teachers at Farhangian University.
Method: The research method was descriptive-correlational, and in terms of purpose, it was applied. The statistical population included all male student-teachers at the Shahid Chamran Campus of Farhangian University during the 2023-2024 academic year in Tehran. The sample consisted of 314 student-teachers selected through random sampling from various departments. Participants completed the Five-Factor Personality Inventory (Costa & McCrae, 1989), the Mindfulness Questionnaire (Ryan & Brown, 2003), and the Spiritual Intelligence Questionnaire (King, 2008). Data analysis was performed using LISREL software and structural equation modeling (SEM).
Results: The findings revealed that conscientiousness (0.26) and extraversion (0.38) had a positive and significant relationship with spiritual intelligence (p < 0.01), while neuroticism (-0.14) had a negative and significant relationship with spiritual intelligence (p < 0.01). Additionally, mindfulness showed a positive and significant relationship with spiritual intelligence (0.04, p < 0.01). Mindfulness significantly mediated the relationships between conscientiousness, extraversion, neuroticism, and agreeableness with spiritual intelligence (p < 0.01).
Conclusion: Personality traits influence spiritual intelligence both directly and indirectly through mindfulness. Then, by changing or enhancing individuals’ non-judgmental awareness of events according to their personality traits, it is possible to increase their level of spiritual intelligence. |
